New Writing Project

I started something new recently, something I haven’t done much of before. I started writing a story! Maybe one day it’ll become a novel, but that is more of a dream at this point. 

I have always loved fantasy novels. The worlds the authors create, the magic they build, and the characters you get to explore all of that with are all what makes fantasy my favorite genre. Something about these new experiences always draws me in, wanting more. There is always something new and magical lurking around in the stories, something that hasn’t been explained yet, something that needs to be uncovered.

Its these stories that have always inspired to me daydreaming my own worlds, my own magical elements and people. Ive began compiling a list of ideas and it has filled far faster than I would have thought. Usually the idea is inspired by something I have recently seen or read and I develop it for a few days in my head before I let it go. Now I make sure to always write down as much detail as I can so that I can look back to it in the future. 

Once in a while I go back and reread my ideas. Some are not very thought through and worked better as daydreams, but there are others that I am amazed at having thought of. Its these stories that I decided that I want to expand more on and develop. 

Writing is something new to me. My hobbies tended to include more hand-crafts than anything else and my work is very technical. Writing is something in between, at least in the way that I have approached it. It feels like a blend of creative and technical, which is a new skill I know I need to get better at.

The process of writing is a lot harder than I expected. Its a lot harder than I think most people realize and that makes me appreciate the wonderful novels I have read even more. It also makes me appreciate the novels I didn’t quite enjoy because even though it wasn’t what I particularly liked, the story was still completed and published. That in itself is worthy of praise.

My story is about 9k words at the moment and I make pretty decent progress everyday. Even if I do not write I always have it in my mind. Hopefully things go well and I will complete it. I don’t expect it to be a masterpiece but I think completing one story is one step closer to my dream of writing a novel.
