Game Review: Rise of the Tomb Raider

Let me start off by saying I love the Tomb Raider series, always have and always will. I have played these games since i was a kid and I remember the days when Lara had triangle boobs and her hair was one solid mesh. Well no more! Lara has evolved into something amazing. Tomb Raider 2013 and now Rise of the Tomb Raider have absolutely blown me away in terms of, well, everything.

Specifically now let’s talk about Rise of the Tomb Raider. The game is GORGEOUS. The gameplay is amazing and flows very well. The world is filled with awesome little secrets and puzzles to solve. And did I mention the game is gorgeous? Seriously, take a look for yourself with the couple of screenshots I have here.

I do miss the old days with a great mansion to explore and play around in, but man. The new games sure do make up for it in terms of quality of gameplay and design. It feels like an adventure, as it should. With interesting obstacles and beautiful scenery. The fighting style is also great as it allows for many different styles of combat. You can be super sneaky with a bow and arrow, or charge in with a shotgun in hang as well as make shift grenades.

The story was quite well done. Slightly predictable in certain ways, but there were also twists that caught be off guard. One thing I did like was how the characters were much more accessible in the new Tomb Raider. You could go and talk to them, making it almost RPG like.

The best part though, the puzzles. They were grand and they were sometimes frustrating and great at the same time. You know a game is done well when you feel very accomplished when you finally figure out all the steps required to make something work.

Overall, this game has it all: adventure, puzzles, combat, exploration and more. I love what they are doing with the series and I cannot wait until the next one.
